Facts & Figures

Sudan is the largest country in Africa, situated on the north -eastren side of the content at (4 & 21) north latitude,comprising an area of (2.5 million Km^2).

The Suda is essentially a country of vast plains, interrupted by a few widely scattered groups of hills mountains.

The country bordered by Nile countries Egypt & Libya border the country from the north Chad & Cetral Africa from the west ,Cango Uganda,& Kenya from the South, Ethiopia & Eritea from the south east.

Climate:-

The Sudan has a variety of climatic regions, ranging from the desert in the north ,to Savannah,the equatorial forests in the south, & reverine & coastal environment .

The Red Sea hills. In short,Sudan has hot rainy summer (April-October) & warm dry winter (November-March) the redsea Area has hot dry summer (May-Septemeber) & warm rainy winter (September-May).

Visas:

All forigners must obtain Visas from Sudanese embassies & diplmatic missions in their respective countries. Travel permit are required if the tourist is intending to visit states other than khartoum.All tourists requested to register at alien office after not then more three days of arrival.

Customs:-

No duty required for tourist's personal effects,such as clothing,toilet requisites,200 cigarettes,or 25 cigars.Customs duty will be collected on items as camera,typewriter,etc...

Guarantee signed by bank or business firm or known residant may be accepted in place of deposit or duty.

Permission is required for importing firearms.One may contact directly,by your travel agent operating in Sudan,or ministry of Environment & Tourism,Wildlife conservation administration.

Motors:-

Application for permission to motor through the Sudan should be made to ministry of Interior Affairs.

The following information are required & should be approved by alien department:

1-The condition of the vehicle.

2-A guarntee from any Bank.

3-The route in Sudan.

Motorists should inquire about the situations of roads before attempting to motor in Sudan especially during the rainy season (June-September).

 

Photography:

Sudan Offers unique opportunities for both,amateur & professional photographers.

Photographers are kindly requested to obtain permission (free of fees from the ministry of Environment & Tourism).

Journalists & Editors should obtain permission from the external publicity pffice,fees are required for such permission.

History:-

The history of the Sudan extends back to Ancient times,further back than 4000 B.C.

The strong Sudanese kingdom of Napta drove away the Egyption & under the rule of Piankhi they occupied Egypt in the 7th century B.C

Sudanese became Christian in the 6th century & in the 14th Century Islam prevailed & the Funj kingdom was formed.

The Turks of Egypt,under the rule of Mohamed Ali Pasha,occupied the Sudan in 1821.

His soul,filled with courage & endurance of justice,Mohamed Ahmed Almahdi,the great Islamic reformer,led the revolution against the Turks in the late 19th century,Egyption & the British reoccupied the Sudan in 1889,after along course of intellectual revoluation,led by the (graduates of Gordon Memorial school,now University of Khartoum ) the Sudan retrived its independence in 1956.

An excellent selection of worked Ebony,silver & cooper,Gold belts,Hand bags,wallets,are articles to be found at the Sudanese handcraft market in Omdurman,as well in the Bazzars in the three Towns Capital (Omdurman-Bahry-Khartoum).

 

Air taxes:

All departing passengers should pay an Airport tax except transit passengers & Childeren under two years old.

Currency:

The official monetary unit is the Sudanese Dinnars,The Sudanese Dinnars equals ten pounds.

Visitors may bring in an unlimited amount of foreign currency providing declaration of such currency is made to custom or authorized exchanging agents upon arrival.Exchange of currency should be only through banks or authorized exchanging agents.
